ICON BUILDER: The World's First Iconography Educational Mobile Application

Icon Builder was born out of both a passion for iconography and a concern for the foundational skills that support it. As an iconography teacher—and a lifelong learner—I discovered that even experienced artists often lack essential drawing skills. But the truth is simple: if you cannot draw, you cannot paint.

As a priest, I’ve also encountered similar gaps in the theological understanding of the icon. Icons are not mere art, in the modern sense of the word—they are sacred images that speak to the divine. The icon is one of humanity’s oldest and most intuitive ways of communicating with the sacred, bridging time, culture, and place.

Across generations, the image of God has continued to be honoured and revered in countless forms. This timeless tradition is entrusted to us—if we are willing to dedicate ourselves to the discipline of learning and the reverence of the craft.

Icon Builder exists to guide, inspire, and support those on this journey—beginners and professionals alike—so the sacred art of iconography may continue with clarity, beauty, and devotion.

The app teaches the basics of iconography through video tutorials, but there are also separate sections on eyes, ears, nose, etc. plus a few other features: 3D models, Extra Resources, Prayers and Theology, a Group Chat feature, and then finally a segment on interviews with other artists and thinkers.
